Today is my last day with iZone!5 years with this amazing organization and the most incredible team.Throughout these 5 years, we built the space, the program and the fun community that you see today. If this was not one of the most rewarding experiences, then I do not know what I can call this.iZone has accomplished so much so far but I can confidently say that the future holds so much more.Barbara J. Burger iZone - University of RochesterSome of my highlights and unforgettable moments:-Being part of the team to build and to revamp the 12000 sq. ft space.-Becoming the Consulting Team Lead to help more than 30 people to build their startups and develop their ideas.-Facilitating more than 70 consulting workshops.-Being awarded as the student employee of the year.-Having meaningless yet the most unforgettable arguments with Mike Arinarkin-Being guided by Dewey Bazirake, the kindest person you would ever meet.-Spending the wholesome nights at the office with Deniz Cengiz and Vlad Cazacu.Becoming friends with my three best supervisors Zoe Wisbey, Julia Maddox and Grant Dever.Meeting two of the most powerful women and mentors Barbara Burger and Mary Ann Mavrinac.Forever thankful to all of you! Can’t possibly tag all people but you all have such a big place in my heart.Another iZone Alumna just joined the list... #tothenewchapter #people #team #community

Getting selected for H1B visa is good news but that does not necessarily imply that you get the H1B visa. Here is what happened to me:I was lucky enough to get selected for H-1B visa. I got selected from the Masters Cap which was relatively new for me as the majority of my acquaintances only got selected from the Undergraduate Cap.USCIS requires the evidence of graduation of Masters degree (in my case) and the evidence can be shown in various ways such as diploma, official transcript, or enrollment certification letter which states the graduation date.As many of you know my program officially ends on the 15th of July which apparently happened to be way too late for USCIS to process my paperwork. The evidence had to be provided by the 30th of June. This caused me to be withdrawn from H1-B cap. It was very upsetting. Luckily I still have my OPT to continue my employment. The reason I am sharing this with you so you can be a little more familiar with the whole process. This being said, I highly encourage you all to consider your options when you enroll in Masters Program. Most of the big and global companies are willing to put you in a Masters Cap if you can provide the evidence of graduation by June 30th. Academic year for every university varies and that can play a big role on your H1B process. If I knew that this could have been a problem, I would have started the conversations with my university a lot earlier to see what my alternative options can be in terms of the graduation dates. Lessons learned:1. Be mindful when choosing a university. Pay attention to its academic year requirements. 2. Be open and communicative with your employer. From my experience, I can definitely tell there was a miscommunication between me, my school and employer. However, they fully supported me and continue to guide me on my case.3. You probably know this, but if you are enrolled in your Masters Degree, your chances are higher to get selected for H1B cap. However that only works if you are willing to provide proof of evidence by June 30th.4. USCIS has set standards, so there is almost no room for flexibility.Hope you find this informative.

We need your help. One of my good friends and a dedicated team player Vlad Cazacu is looking for an opportunity in VC/FO or PM at Series A+ startups. He is on F1 Visa and he only has 60 days to find a job in the US. I can assure you he is an outstanding man with so much energy and brain power. He is a graduate of University of Rochester. He also has a Masters from McCombs School Of Business School. If you have any job openings. Please message me or Vlad Cazacu directly. Thank you all!! This once again shows the challenges every international student faces in the US.

It's Day of Giving at the University of Rochester! This year Barbara J. Burger iZone - University of Rochesterchose their microgrant program for Day of Giving. This is a relatively new initiative and was created by izone consultants exactly a year ago. There is nothing more rewarding seeing our students implementing their ideas across the globe, in various communities. Throughout this process I have met many bring students who strived to build their projects. I truly believe the Microgrant program can grow even further and support 100s of students at the University. #university #projects #consultants Barbara J. Burger iZone - University of RochesterPlease join me in supporting this fantastic initiative to jump-start student changemakers.https://lnkd.in/eWmRdD6e
