Football medal: Herbert Lock, Southampton, Glasgow Rangers, QPR & Bournemouth & Boscombe, 1887-1957. This, and the following three lots, all relate to the career of Herbert Lock, one of Britain`s finest goalkeepers either side of World War 1. Lock joined Southampton in 1907 and following a number of promising performances he joined Glasgow Rangers. Lock soon became established as Rangers first choice goalkeeper but the war interrupted his career and he worked in the Glasgow Shipyard during the hostilities. During the 1919/20 season he kept goal for Rangers in 35 matches, keeping 20 clean sheets. In total Lock played for Rangers on 266 occasions, keeping 109 clean sheets. Once leaving Scotland Lock played for QPR, then returned to Southampton before finishing his career at Bournemouth & Boscombe. Glasgow Cup Medal, 1912. This match was played against Celtic on 12 Oct 1912 at Hampden Park in front of a crowd of 90,000. Rangers won 3-1 with goals from Hogg, Smith & Bennett. Interestingly Lock was injured in semi final replay against Partick Thistle but was awarded this medal due to his involvement in the earlier rounds. In original presentation box with gilt lettering (vg)
