In this section of the East, the football year is confined to a span between and late November. The Ivies are aghast at such collegiate nonsense as spring practice, bowl games and national rankings so the sport traditionally remains well within limits deemed practical by 1 the educators. Quite a few excellent football players, lured by the prospects of a degree with the influential Ivy Stamp on it, stray into the league, however, and they receive the benefit of coaching perhaps second to none in the nation.

Thus, while the league be viewed as a football wasteland by the experts who dote on the big league stuff put out by the football factories in other sections, the football-forfun boys put on a rousing show. They'll offer at one time or another just about every wrinkle and formation to be seen in modern football and some out of the museum. Princeton still goes with the single wing offense, an item now dead everywhere except at East Carolina and, at last report, at Panhandle in Oklahoma. In a display of Australian humor, Sturrock as he crossed the finish line broke out flag signifying that Dame Pattie did not care to race Tuesday. Up until almost the last moment there had been doubt whether Monday's race could be sailed. A heavy fog lay at sea the great mansions of Newport and the host New York Yacht Club held up the race until 2 p.m.
