I have a 3 and a half year old GE Cafe Dishwasher which I paid over $1400 for and yesterday, when I ran it, I had a couple of cups melted when I opened it. This morning, I opened it to remove the remaining dishes. I closed the door to it and left for work. I did not run it again, just emptied it. My husband came home about an hour after I left to a house filled with smoke and the smell of melted plastic. He opened the dishwasher and found everything inside melted. The spinners, the silverware holder and all the plastic rack dividers were totally melted.Apparently, the heating element stuck on and overheated it. If he hadnt come home when he did, I believe our home would have caught fire. He said the whole kitchen was much hotter than the rest of the house. The service repair man said it cant be fixed because it got so hot it melted the seals in the motor. It was not a wiring problem with the house. It was a problem with the dishwasher itself. So now, I am out $1400 plus a house full of very toxic smelling smoke.

They team up with other grade e or f manufacturers for appliances (ie: LG, Samsung) and ANY GE appliance is almost guaranteed to fail prematurely. I see all these comments bucking Malaysia and in all reality the fact remains that Malaysia makes damn good stuff (think SONY). But it is the COMPANIES that build the products and how much theyre getting paid that factors quality. No doubt that GE is using the bottom dweller rejected off the assembly line parts to build their units. Most are Chinese garbage. China also builds some very reliable products but as the saying goes dumb American will buy anything. They save the best for them and sell us the crap.It is the lowest grade of those already should have been scrapped at the factory parts that GE passes off as quality and they do a good job at showing it. A cheap 30 dollar China made Emerson microwave made by Daewoo (Korean company that actually is decent) lasts longer and takes a hell of a beating compared to the overpriced rejected junk we call GE. The GE ac units are another classic example of pure garbage. Sadly the older GE works forever. That should sum it up. Why didnt the GE executives while visiting Thomas Edisons grave make every effort to step away from his grave and not stand upon it? Because Thomas Edison would pull them under.

We recently purchased our second dishwasher in 16+ years (the other one (a Kenmore) is still running fabulously but staying with the sale of our former home - however I am tempted to swap it out with this new one from GE). This beautiful inside and out dishwasher has a couple main flaws that has me wanting my old dishwasher back. The buttons on the front are super sensitive, causing it to come on countless times a day as we get items out of cabinet above. This is not something we thought about. Our old one had the controls on the front but they were under plastic that you pushed... not actual buttons like this one.The second issue is minor. The rack on the bottom is set up very wide on one side and our dinner plates are smaller than some and they do not sit firmly in between the tines. The spacing is great for larger plates or serving items but not for medium size plates. We use a lot of bowls so the other side with closer together tines is always full. Like I said just a minor flaw. Lastly, the unit puts off a high-pitched sound during certain parts of the cycle. It is not really loud but it is bothersome if we are still in the kitchen when it is running.

Well I bought a 200 dollar GE microwave in February. 3 months later it went out on me. I did hard and soft reset numerous times with no success. They offered me a discounted check to replace it and it would take 4-6s weeks to receive. Instead we returned to place of purchase and they gave us a floor model to replace it. All was well for 2 months when lo and behold this one started doing the same thing. No amount of resetting would make it run. It went out cooking corn on the cob. Why is this so hard to keep running? Their response this time was a goodwill rebate certificate to purchase only a GE microwave. Why in heavens name would I want another one? It only lasts a couple of months and who is to say the 3rd replacement will not be the same.

They sent out a repairman on 4 different occasions (one came out twice) and each one gave a different reason why they think it wasnt working right (what we are doing wrong). Each time, we followed their directions and the machine still doesnt clean. A decision was made that they will not replace the dishwasher, but would offer us an extended warranty. I explained that an extended warranty is useless to me if the machine isnt working correctly now.

We have had our GE dishwasher model GDT580SMF5ES for only 1 year and a half. As I was closing the door the hooks that attached the outer shell/panel to the door broke. Unfortunately we didnt purchase extended warranty so this will not be covered. We have had two technicians from our home insurance coming in but we are not sure yet if the policy will cover the repair. I just cannot believe this is happening as we have barely used this dishwasher as it is only my husband and myself. All I can say is dont buy GE.

I bought a dishwasher 2 1/2 years ago, along with GE fridge, microwave, convection oven for my remodeled kitchen. It was less than a year old, when the dishwasher control board went. GE fixed it for no charge, as it was under warranty. They sent the part, and the repairman was great. A little over a year later, the same thing happened. It is no longer under warranty. I spoke with a supervisor about this. This dishwasher was just over 2 years old, and again, the same thing happened. They were very nice, and sent a man over, after sending the same part in the mail, and again, he was very nice, and I was called to see if everything was to my satisfaction, and it was. I was not charged. It is now a few months later, and the machine will not begin the cycle. The lights are on, blink several times, then finally go off altogether. I did the troubleshooting suggestions, including turning it off via the circuit breaker to reboot, and still nothing. I am so angry. This is a relatively new machine. I am so disgusted that I will never buy another GE appliance, and strangely, I have stock in the company. Its a small amount, but stock nonetheless. What a shame. Now, I have to spend a lot of money on a repair that I should not have to. GE charges $90 just to walk in the door. I was told the second time it would be over $200 to repair a 2 year old machine. It is not the customer support nor repairmen that I am so angry about, rather, it is the ** machine, which is not even 3 years old! The thing is, I always try my best to buy American products, even cars. Before I call in a repairman, I am going dishwasher shopping, in case I decide that it is simply not worth an over $200 repair. I will not be looking at GE.

GE Profile Microwave JVM1850DMCC - For the third time in 5.5 years, Ive experienced a magnetron failure in a GE Profile Microwave. The first failure was fixed under warranty. The second was so bad, the microwave had to be replaced, but it was no longer under warranty. I should have heeded the warning and gone to another brand, but on 12/31/10, I paid over $500 to replace the microwave with a new GE Profile to match the existing appliances. Apparently this was a big mistake as the magnetron has failed yet again. The microwave is on its own separate 20A circuit, so that shouldnt be an issue. It would seem, however, based on the number of complaints I see on this site, there is something inherently wrong with the manufacture of these microwaves, or more specifically the magnetrons. Im extremely disgusted at this point.

We purchased several new GE appliances in August of 2016 as part of a kitchen renovation. We bought the GE Cafe series dishwasher CDT865SSJOSS. Within two weeks of use, the display stopped working. It took 3 weeks to get a technician out to fix display. Approximately 6 months later, we noticed the dishes were not as clean. Two months later the water stopped draining. Called a technician in, he diagnosed a broken pump. Parts would take 3 weeks and he would be out a week later. We are now over a month without a working dishwasher. He “fixes” the pump but says it isn’t draining great because your hose from your disposal is plugged (this hose drains to the same place as the dishwasher). Hire a guy to unplug the drain ($140). It isn’t plugged. The whole house is clear. Have to Shopvac out the stagnant water from the dishwasher that smells like a corpse. Call our plumber to check the lines ($500). He discovers that the technician pushed in the washer and busted a line. We now have water damage through our floor and into a bedroom below. He confirms that the plumbing is all clear and also finds that the technician never reattached the pan to the bottom so water was hitting the sensor and activating the shut off for a leak. Plumber fixes plumbing wrecked by technician, dries the sensor and attaches the pan. He advises that we run several cycles to flush out the stagnant water. If water still is not draining after several cycles, he advised that the new pump was faulty. Plumber leaves. We get 10 minutes into a cycle and the dishwasher stops for a leak again. I called GE hoping they would stand behind their product that we have now had for 2 years and have used less than a year. GE does not stand behind their products. The only thing they will do is send out a technician that you have to pay $100 for and they can’t guarantee that you won’t get the same technician who has come out 3 times and cost us more money due to his negligence. In May, we will be putting their terrible product out on our curb for city wide garbage collection. You no longer get what you pay for with GE. Do not buy their products!

The other night I placed cup of water in microwave, turned on for 1minute and FLAMES shot out (on the inside) from the “squares” on the inside. Does it every time so unplugged. Contacted GE. Was told Out of warranty. Repair person can’t come for 2 weeks. Waiting for return call from customer support. I don’t think flames can be fixed!!

I do a fair share of high end kitchen installs, I noticed that in the last 5 years that all GE dishwashers I installed had a whole lot of extra parts to be installed by the installer. For example. Today I uncrated and tried to roll a GE dishwasher I got 6 and a drip tray fell out. Then when I went to install the dishwasher in the cabinet I had to install 4 different rubber flanges. When I went to push the dishwasher in the flanges came loose and hindered the install. The the insulation jacket kept binding up. The last 10 of these GE dishwashers I have installed the dishwasher appears to be racked or not square. I had to tell the General Contractor that I dont want to install the GE dishwashers any more. Service tech comes and says, Sorry parts are back ordered for 3 months (including new frame due to damage done to it getting the thing open). I call GE customer care. Explain that its obviously cheaper to drop ship me a new unit (and I will waive the new frame) than all of the parts, frame and a second call to fix the unit. Their answer, buy a new unit at a discount or simply go without a microwave for 3 months. Add me to the list of victims trying to warn others to NEVER buy a GE product.

We just had a remodel and for the first time had an expensive, over the oven microwave and were very excited. Unfortunately, unlike the 2 cheap microwaves weve purchased in the last 36 years, this one we had used for 3 months total, developed problems. The motor seemed to surge and then it would go off. Half an hour later it came back on but would only work for about 5 minutes at a time. I called GE and they arranged for a local company to come take a look. They insisted on a 4 hour window and fortunately my husband is retired so he could be there. The repairman came and didnt have a clue as to what was wrong. He called his boss who talked him through diagnostics. After an hour he left, saying hed be back in a week with some new parts. Again we had to wait the 4 hour window. He came in and we were on pins and needles hoping he wouldnt scratch our cabinets as he took the unit down. He replaced the microwave component and when he left it worked. Two days later it again died. I called the repair people and they told me I had to call GE to get permission for another attempt at repair. I called GE and they said I had to call customer service to file a report. They told me I had to make an appointment for a technician to come out to see if the microwave could be repaired. Really??? The technician would try to repair it again or decide it couldnt be repaired and needed to be replaced. Like we have nothing better to do than wait for these repair people who have no clue as to how to repair the microwave. Every time they take down the microwave they risk ruining our cabinets. It was so unhelpful. I am really disappointed in GE customer service. We had to go out and buy a microwave to use while we were waiting for the repair. They obviously dont care that we cant use their expensive product. Our replacement microwave was $40 from Walmart and works beautifully. We finally complained to our WONDERFUL contractor who originally purchased the microwave for us and he is replacing it with a new one. He was appalled by GEs treatment. He takes note of appliances that are crap so he can warn customers. I thought I was buying from a reputable company and thinking we were getting a great and special product. Too bad.

Over-the-range microwave failure (model JVM2052, manufactured Dec. 2010) was purchased and installed professionally in March 2011. Total cost is $546. First, the fan failed in about June 2012 and I thought I can live with this. In Sept. 2012, the unit failed, but the interior light and clock still work. I paid $97.00 for a service call from the dealer, and the tech said the power source failed(?). Estimated parts and labor for repair is $370. So, I will buy a new unit (not GE) and pay about $150 for delivery and installation and take away this GE unit. I live in Morris County, NJ and this is not a rural area! GE service rep whom I called said GE doesnt service this area and to look in the yellow pages for an authorized dealer. I called again and got the name and address of the president of GE Appliances, and I am going to write about this product.

Since it was a built in so had not many options for replacement and went for GE again. This time the new microwave had a faulty door switch. It wasnt opening up every time. Scheduled an appointment and no one showed up - waiting for the whole day. I called the customer service 3 times and learnt that they had ordered some parts and were waiting for that. No one called and conveyed me this. I learnt myself after waiting from 8 am to 5 pm and upon calling them. They rescheduled me for a week later so that the parts can arrive. The day before the appointment I called again and now they dont have me in the scheduled appointment and got another appointment a week later. IT IS SUCH A BAD COMMUNICATION BY GE. I will NEVER recommend GE to anyone.

Periodically my GE Profile Dishwasher will not clean well. On every occasion it is due to clogging of spray ports on the upper and/or lower spray arms. Removing the blockages is nigh-on impossible as it is often not possible to extract the blockage from the outside and its not at all possible to flush the blockage back down the arm to extract it at the centre. All that is required is a bit of forethought and the creation of some access to the arm. I was frankly surprised to not be able to find a replacement arm as the suggested solution to this problem, the additional part revenue being part of GEs the business model. There are a number of other design issues with the assembly at the bottom that make me think it was done by an intern and nobody checked her work at the end of summer break before it went into production.

The bottom of the dishwasher is filled with water, the door has water running down the front and all dishes have to be dried. I have talked to GE and I was told the new models do not have a drying system as in the past due to EPA. I feel like we have spent thousands of dollars for items that are trash. Had I known I would be drying dishes I would never bought GE products. I would trade this GE for a SEARS in a minute but too late. Ill keep calling GE office, maybe a miracle will occur. My microwave was purchased 2.13, costing about $500. The panel shorts and I paid for one GE visit, $150. And it happened again. My friend was here and said hers does the same thing. She has a neighbor with the same problem. I researched online and learned quite a bit about this machine. I found out that the panel shorts when youre cooking under it, and steam/heat rises into the machine. Makes the panel short. Im now demanding that GE return $150 service fee that I paid before I found out that its a defective machine. And this machine has to be replaced with a model that allows cooking with vents on. If GE does not do the right thing, I will make it a life goal that no one buy their products. Mark my words. Im this angry because I called customer service this week and was told that theyll give me a new panel but I have to pay for the labor and no refund for the $150 and no replacement microwave. This was insulting. Shame on GE.

My GE Profile dishwasher is now 4 years old and Ive put up with it not cleaning well. For the last 3 years, I get a cloudy gray film over the dishes and finally figured out what is happening!! There is a gray rubber/plastic border around the bottom screen piece that has all the holes in it and covers most of the bottom of the dishwasher. I gently scraped with my finger and lo and behold its like gray putty!! So, the whole border of this gray rubber/plastic is disintegrating!! I had a 4 year warranty from Sears and they sent out a repairman. He is just going to order that whole screen part and replace it. He scraped the rubber and it came off for him too!! He said he never saw that before. He said it is probably the fault of my detergent which comes from health food stores and NOT the Cascade that they promote. Anyway, now I know where the gray film is coming from... Weve probably been consuming this for 4 years, a little at a time (NOT GOOD)!!! Im not thrilled with Cascade either!! Probably my LAST GE product to buy!!

We have never had a problem with the microwave. Most of our use has been heating things up. There has been a few times that our granddaughter made something else. It is lightweight. Easy to clean. Not too large or small. Fits what we use it for perfectly. Doesnt take up much room. It heats perfectly. It has been a really good microwave.

I love GE's washing machines front loader and it's excellent. I've never had to have them come out and four years to fix anything on it. Cleans very well and washes the clothes outstanding and it cleans up very easily when you clean it through the cycle that comes with the machine. It's relatively easy to understand as far as the button setup on there. I also liked that you get the echo warm in the Echo cold features along with the regular warm and cold. I did purchase the block that the time that I got it which helped out a lot is I'm 5 foot 10 and it's the perfect height. It helps getting stains out really easy as I have a nice here to play softball. I would definitely recommend this washer to anybody and everybody. I even wash my huge comforter for my bed in it and it washes it great every time.

Most currently, the power board did not shut off at the end of the cycle, overheated and melted the harness also. We were alerted when the odor of burnt plastic filled our home. It was fortunate that we were home and in the next room, or our house could have burned down.The dishwasher cannot be repaired. I will contact GE to see what, if anything they will do to compensate me, but I am not optimistic. I will never buy GL products again. I thought by buying top of the line products from a well-known manufacturer, I would have a quality product. I was totally wrong. Sometimes, you dont get what you pay for.

I bought one of the microwave ovens with two metal shelves. I found that the shelf in the middle of the oven was in the way and I removed it years ago, but left the top shelf in the unit. The other day, while cooking in the microwave it started to spark at the point where the shelf sat on a small clip. The inside of the oven is ruined. Why would anyone put metal shelves inside a microwave? Im just lucky that I was nearby and able to stop the fire before it destroyed my kitchen.

I may be speaking too soon because I need to run my dishwasher again to make sure the minor leak truly has been fixed, but I am very impressed with the responsiveness of GE customer support. There was virtually no wait to talk to a rep about my 2-month-old dishwasher with a drip (plus water was collecting inside). Less than twenty four hours after my call, a friendly man was at my door to fully diagnose and then correct the issue. This was the cheapest, bottom-of-the line model that they so quickly came to service! Now in an ideal world, a new dishwasher wouldnt need any servicing at all, but I think all dishwashers are pretty finicky so at the moment, Im pleased.

GE Microwave was making intermittent buzzing noise 1 month after purchase. Called GE & they said they could send a tech out to check it but if they didnt find anything I would be charged a service call. I stated it would only do it once in a while so was concerned it wouldnt do it when tech was here & I would be charged so I passed on the tech. Microwave continued to make noise periodically but seemed to get less as time went on. 1 year & 10 months later it started to sound like it was arcing & shut off. Again it was periodic. Called GE. They sent a tech out & it only shut off but no arcing sound or intermittent starting & stopping. Tech stated it probably was door micro switch, but when GE called me back they said he stated it probably was circuit board. Whatever the cause it is still what I would call arcing & going off & on.GE stated They could give me a discount on a new microwave which amounted to cost of $100.00 more than I paid for it in the first place.

But...I did register my new, never before installed dishwasher when it was installed October 2020. After install I ran it empty to test/clean it. IT LEAKED. I called GE to schedule repair. I was told it was manufactured in 2018 (another said 2019) and it was not under warranty. I explained I purchased it only a few months before and installation was delayed due to my contractors. They said I would have to pay for labor but the parts were covered under warranty. I didnt like it but agreed because I couldnt find the receipt (from a big box store).Local repair people came, after 2 more calls, 3 weeks later and fixed the leak. They did not run or check if anything else was wrong with the dishwasher. I began using it and quickly realized that it did not get the dishes clean. It does not heat the water, it does not dry, it cant possibly sanitize without heat and kitchen installer said it was missing the kick plate. Geez!! And this is just the things I know!! I have called 4 times now to schedule a service repair, each time having to explained the whole thing, sit on hold, ask to speak to a supervisor, be transferred to customer service and 4 times I have been DISCONNECTED!! I bought all GE appliances so they would match but I would give anything if I didnt have to deal with GE again!! Unfortunately, I will have to call again Monday or buy a different brand. Save yourself and buy another brand!!! Wish I could submit a picture.

I purchased this Spacemaker Microwave Oven (HVM1540LP1CS) from Home Depot in Aug. 2010 along with a GE electric range (JB400SPSS). I wanted the appliances to match and they look very nice in our kitchen. Four days ago the microwave stopped working, that is, it comes on and appears to be working but does not heat the food placed in it. After looking on the internet, I found that other consumers have had the same problem and it appears the megatron is the culprit. The microwave was manufactured in March 2010 in Malaysia so it was not an older model that has been sitting in a warehouse somewhere.The cost to repair the microwave will be about $125 which is about half of what I paid for it. I will not repair this microwave just to have it fail in 20 months, General Electric should be ashamed of themselves for selling foreign-made products that do not last more than 2 years. My only hope is that the electric range we purchased does not follow the same course as the microwave, consumers should be aware of these problems before they purchase General Electric products.

Horrible experience. I wouldnt recommend GE appliances to anyone. My husband and I ordered our items on the day of closing on our new Home. Well the items were scheduled to arrive Aug 9, 2017. Every other Appliance arrived from Samsung, but my GE dishwasher was a no show. I received a phone call hours later stating they didnt know it was on Backorder and I wont receive it until Aug 11, 2017.I spoke with supervisor Krista because I didnt understand the lack of respect far as not knowing if the 11 was a good day or even so much as an apology! Until I expressed how upset I was! 2 hours later I received a automatic message stating the items it still on Backorder and now its not coming until Aug 17th! I spoke with Home Depot who apparently has nothing to do with the vendor handling and conducting business this way and now I have to go return the product & order a new product.I dont even want GE appliances AT ALL. After calling today being put on hold 30 mins still no supervisor came to the phone. Terrible Customer service and lack of communication of the vendor. Ill be sure to highly encourage my friends and family to not support this Brand! Feeling upset and totally let down. I know this cant be how such a popular brand conducts business.

GE Cafe Series dishwasher model # CDW9380N20SS is a fire hazard. Three days ago, our GE Cafe Series dishwasher nearly caused a fire. If I had not been home that day, it surely would have. I ran the dishwasher as usual and went about my day several hours later. I detected a strange acrid smell and with my five-year-old who was ill and at home that day, discovered the dishwasher door was burning hot to the touch. I needed a potholder to open the door. Once opened, there was a blast of heat and smoke. I needed to use oven mitts to protect my hands from the heat to pull the racks out and handle the dishes. The heating element did not deactivate at the end of the cycle.If I had not been at home, the house would have been destroyed as all the plastic items on the top rack in the dishwasher melted. In addition the plastic parts of the lower rack, the wheels and their clips; the silverware holder; covers; the clips that hold the pot tins in place were destroyed, to the point that the majority of our silverware was coated with plastic. The plastic on the lower water dispenser has been demolished; it completely melted more than 50% of the plastic covering on the arm and is charred and burned. We are so lucky to still have a home!The door must be kept open. When the door is closed, the element super heats and presents a major fire hazard. We have noticed that there is a recall for similar models with plastic tubs, but ours has a stainless tub. GE needs to broaden the recall to include all these models. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed immediately. Our GE Cafe Series dishwasher model #CDW9380N20SS was installed on October 1, 2008. I would not be surprised to find that parts from the recall in April 2008 were also used in the Cafe Series. I have discovered in the few days since the DW units malfunction that there are over 1000 complaints listed with similar, even identical complaints, on multiple internet sites with the same problems.

My prior GE ref was 13 years old. New one, now four months old, has cut my electric bill by 40%, runs much more quietly. It is a 15.3 cu feet side-by-side; the top area of the refer side has a bulky light cover that interferes with what you can put on the top shelf. The pockets on the inside door of the freezer side are a bit too small. But, all things considered, it's a great unit and I'd probably buy it again, considering the price.

Have a GE dishwasher put into operation June 2016 (new home). In Oct 2016 we noticed a leak and a serviceman came out and identified a loose soap dispenser - tightened it. Next time we used it, leaked as before. Same serviceman came again, this time replaced both the main seal & spinning water distribution wand assembly. Again, the unit leaked and on Dec 14th same serviceman replaced the soap dispenser. Before he got too far down the road, we called as the unit again leaked. He blamed it on excessive soap suds - which he removed manually. Following his departure, we again experienced a leak. Same serviceman returned on Dec 15th. After review, he advised us the DW would be replaced and we should get a call within 48 hrs to arrange. On Dec 17th (still no followup from GE) the DW leaked again - we video this time. On Dec 19th called customer relations and after much discussion it was apparent GE has NO CLUE what the heck they are doing. ONE MORE repair trip was scheduled - this time they would replace the inside and outside panel! We are fortunate to be retired otherwise this repair process would have cost us about $2000 so far! How idiotic is GE?? How much have they spent to avoid replacing this unit? Believe me this is the LAST GE appliance we buy from them. Dont know how they stay in business. We are awaiting the panel repair guy as of this writing. Will update once this service has been completed.

The GE repairman just left. It wasnt the coil that was flaking, it was the eco dish washing detergent I was using. The detergent wasnt dissolving, it was clogging up the jets and burning on the coil. What I was seeing was black burned detergent flakes. The repairman gave me citric acid to use to clean out the clogs (for free). He also didnt charge me for the visit, even though it was my fault. He also told me to get the water in my sink really hot before I start the dishwasher. I am very impressed with his service!

Not only is the product inferior but the customer service department is run by a group of very inept people that lack basic communication skills. The microwave I purchased needed two repairs within the first five years of purchase. I have a microwave in my office at work that I purchased over 10 years ago and Ive never had an issue with it. Needless to say, it isnt a GE product. Last April the microwave started acting up again and kept turning itself off. We didnt even bother calling GE because like everything else their repairmen are also incompetent. 1-800-Appliance came out and found that the magnetron needed to be replaced and we should just purchase a new appliance. Because our microwave had been installed in a custom made cabinet and the trim kit was still good, we made the mistake of purchasing the same exact microwave from GE for convenience. This was in April of 2014. Right now I am waiting for a GE repairman to come and take a look at it because it is already not working. I sent out a mass email to all of the owners to ask if they were having the same problems I was having my microwave, which was the touch panel will not accept commands. I received approximately 15 complaints from various homeowners with the same complaint.When I called GE to tell them the problem I was having with my microwave, they told me a technician would have to come out and diagnose the problem. The service call would be $99.95, and at that time the technician would let me know what the problem was and tell me the charge for the replacement part and labor cost. I told GE Customer Service that there were many people in my condo building who were having the same problem and I wanted to know why each homeowner should have to pay the initial $99.95 service call fee? The response was, That is our policy. To placate me, GE customer service said they would charge me the initial fee but I would receive a 25% discount for parts and labor.In the meantime, two or three other homeowners made service call appointments for their microwave oven with GE. One homeowner was given a fee for parts and labor, which would have been only slightly less than buying a new microwave and another homeowner was not given a labor cost. In both cases, the homeowners did not go forth with their repairs, because buying a new microwave was more cost effective.I want Consumer Affairs to know GE grossly mishandled this malfunction issue amongst a group of homeowners who own the same microwave. Secondly, I realize the microwave ovens are five years old, but GE should have some record regarding failing parts along with the life cycle of this product. Lastly, I want GE to be held accountable for not telling consumers a repair cost for certain issues. There should be a cost per hour, not cost per broken item.I kept records of all correspondence amongst the homeowners of my condominium building, so I will be of great assistance if you need further help from me. Ive owned my GE Profile dishwasher for 6 years. Two months ago the pump had to be replaced and this is quite an expensive item. Then the other day I went to open the dishwasher and the doors spring gave away, hence slamming to the floor and crushing my big toe. The repairman said it was not the spring that broke but the link that holds the spring in place. The spring is actually quite strong but the link is just a flimsy piece of plastic. We are both anxious to see if the replacement link he ordered has been made stronger and are replacing both just to be sure it doesnt happen again. Although my toe isnt broken, it is extremely bruised and painful so I am going to be ever cautious of opening the dishwasher again.

I had some minor complaints about how hard it was to fit bowls, how the utensil rack wasnt easily accessible, how long the cycles took, how it had to be vented right after a cycle to keep clean dishes from smelling musty... But I was willing to put up with that. I spent about $700 new. The dishes did come out clean, if I stacked them properly. I only used it when full, about 2x/week, as I am an aging widow & live alone. It stopped functioning a few days ago. Control panel lit up, a little water came in, but no action with spray, etc. Called a local repair company today. They say the control panel is shorted out, and that in turn burned out the motor. The repair cost would have been $524.61. REALLY? Not doing that! Very disgusted. Ill never buy GE again. Last KitchenAid lasted 12 yrs, but as all the repair guys say: They dont make em like they used to! Too many bells & whistles. All I require is clean dishes, and for the appliance to do its job.

I was told after 2 visits by GE repair that it functions as designed. We have water softener, use rinse agent and quality dishwashing detergent, and the water temperature is within acceptable range.

We bought the countertop stainless steel microwave model JES1142SJ the end of 2010. Noticed a rust ring under the revolving paint about a month ago. The paint was chipped off and when I washed it with a dish cloth, more came off. It is getting worse. We didnt stop using it since it seems it is only coming off under the plate but is it safe to continue using? Could it catch fire? Is it putting bad things in the food we heat in it? Even though it is not an expensive microwave ($100-$125) it should not be rusting inside. It should last longer than 3 years!Sounds like GE will not back up their products since so many microwaves owners are complaining about the paint being inferior and flaking off. There should be a recall for this problem on all microwaves sold by GE. Complaints have been from countertop to the most expensive dual stoves! I usually buy GE; but this is making me have 2nd thoughts and think that my ones I bought in 2010 will be the last purchased from GE.They did come out twice for my range when the oven stopped working at 2 years and one of the eye knobs to turn on and off needed to be replaced when it would not turn off. But a 2 year old stove should not have needed any repairs. I noticed a big difference in quality after I bought this new one when we moved. My old GE from 1996 is still my favorite one and is still working just fine in my sons house.

She said her computer screen showed our product registration, and she also saw we owned three other GE products. Fast forward, the GE repairman came and said the microwave repair cost would be around $400. The heating part wasnt under warranty nor was the labor. Mind you, the entire microwave (new) was under $400. We called the GE service center, and they refused to honor what their representative had told us. The most they offered was 50% off. I dont accept the premise that a new appliance should only last four years. I will replace my unusable microwave with a competitor’s brand and will pledge never to purchase a GE appliance again. Nothing extra, very basic, it has regular or pot scrubber cycles, air dry or heat dry, a slot for dry rinse liquid, detergent slot, short wash cycle, upper rack, lower rack and flatware basket. Came with the house purchased 17+ years ago. White body with black upper control panel the entire width of the dishwasher. It is still in very good condition, but then I take care of everything, always rinse everything before placing them in the dishwasher. Never needed service yet.

On New Years eve (2016), the dishwasher flooded the kitchen. I removed the kick panel and saw water pouring from the pump. After the holiday, we finally got in touch with the appliance repair shop who handles GE warranty work in our area.They contacted GE on our behalf to see if GE would stand behind a product that was just over 1 month out of warranty. Bear in mind, this wasnt something simple like an indicator light burning out, this failure was catastrophic. GE basically told them (and us) to pound sand. We are a 2 person family. The dishwasher was used maybe twice a week during the year weve owned it. Amazing quality! Now Im looking forward to watching the rest of this stuff fall apart. It looks like the life span of the product and the warranty period are the same. How handy for GE. They must not have to depend on repeat business or take these negative reviews seriously.

I have contacted GE through email several times and now I have to handwash all of the silverware and re-wash most of the dishes. At times, glasses and silverware come out worse than when they went in. We have checked the water temp, pipe size. We use recommended detergent and finish rinse. We had a service call from a reputable appliance repair person, we purchased the recommended citric acid and performed the recommended protocol. This thing stinks! GE recommended another service call. I had a 20+ year old KitchenAid prior to this and it worked like a champ! Never an issue. I am ready to toss it out and buy something else (but it wont match!). GE answer: metal is non-toxic, do not worry if small amounts ingested! Told me to not use it anymore and replace it at my own cost. There is some kind of thing that locks you out of using it. Very frustrating when you just want to eat dinner!! Nothing works and you have to google how do you unlock this piece of crap that you paid good money for and trusted the GE label. All we ever use is defrost food or time cook vegetables. If you want a complex computer, go for this thing. Otherwise, I suggest you go for a simpler microwave that you can depend on to work.

We have a lower end GE stainless steel model that came with the purchase of our new build home. The washer is just average and does not have a huge capacity. For only 2 people in the house it gets the job done in general.

I have had this GE microwave for over a year now and have not had a problem with it. It has a variety of settings and it doesnt quit if something causes a spark/feedback, like a tiny piece of foil. It has a spacious interior and a large turntable. Also, the light stays on while cooking and comes on when the door is opened allowing one to watch and check on the cooking process even in a dim night light environment. Mid-morning munchies without having to turn a bright light on. I have tried other GE products and was disappointed with their performance. This GE microwave has worked well and I have not had any problems with it.

I have a GE Profile dishwasher that is only 1 1/2 years old and the control panel has stopped working 2 times. The first time, it’s under warranty and it repair took place for a couple of minutes. The second time, it’s not under warranty and they want to charge $89 just for the service call, parts and labor. Crazy. That’s a $1000-plus appliance that has already broken two times. I cant run the dishwasher on any setting except the one that it decides to choose for us. Yes, it changes whenever it feels like it. This was one of their higher end dishwashers and, to be honest, it really doesnt clean any better than a lower end one that I had at a previous home.

We bought a GE dishwasher a little over 3 years ago. In the last week of September we awoke to the smell of hot or melted plastic. We found the source to be the dishwasher. I had loaded and started it before going to bed the night before. The counter-top above the dishwasher was stove top hot and upon opening the dishwasher found that a cutting board that we have had for many years and have always put in the dishwasher had melted on top of the heating coil. Dishwasher safe items on the top rack melted as well. It had been drying for at least 9 hours. After pulling the dishwasher out we saw the heat shield had melted and was crumbling. We contacted GE, sent them all the pictures and they told us it was not a safety issue. We have no doubt that if we had not woken up so early we would have had a fire in our house caused by the dishwasher.

We have called in a GE repair person to fix it and they said it was a heating issue and not repairable. We have not used it since, but have not replaced it with a new one yet. In August, we read about the recall of a similar model number manufactured within same time frame. Our machine model is PDW7300J03WW, the recalled model is PDW7. Our machines serial # is **. Strangely, the serial number is not listed in the recall, even though symptoms are exactly the same!We have called GE Consumer Affairs at 1-800-386-1215 four times, the most recent today, 9/14/2012. Each time we call, we are left on hold for 59 minutes only to be disconnected automatically! I am sending a registered letter to GE CA with a copy of this link and intend to contact my local news if I do not receive sufficient response within the week. Does GE need to see an actual fire report from my fire department or worse in order to get their attention to replace the unit? It is disgraceful and extremely dangerous.

My parents owned the same GE microwave for over 25 years and had no problems with it. However, after theirs finally died 2-3 years ago, my parents made the mistake of purchasing another GE microwave. BIG MISTAKE!!! It wont turn off unless they unplugging it! They have already paid to have a tech come out to fix it but the problem started again 3 months later. I called 1800GECARES and they said you either need to have a tech come out or we can replace it. I said Do you mean your solution is that my parents who just spent several hundreds of dollars on your defective appliance should spend several more hundreds of dollars to purchase another one from GE? Why did their last one last over 25 years but this one only lasted around 2-3 years? Why dont you stand by your products? Their response was I can connect you to customer service for further help. I said I think Im going to stop wasting my time. and hung up on them. Dont trust the GE name, it doesnt mean what it used to!!!

Consistent with many reviews about poor customer service and saga to try to get an appliance fixed, we experienced a very situation with their microwave. Power is on but doesnt heat food. 5 visits later and multiple calls to GE became a string of technicians having to order a part, waiting at least a week to receive the part and technician trying to fix it. For 2 weeks the microwave worked and then stopped working. Called GE again, and again they insist on having technician come by to diagnose the same problem. We put our foot down and asked for a replacement and were denied because it wasnt deemed to be irreparable. I stayed online until they offered a discount on a new microwave and they then took more than a week to send that and also proceed to take the old one which not convinced they were entitled to take given we had to purchase a new one. Completely inefficient process, customer service agents who are in and unfortunate enough to follow an inefficient process that is not focused on the consumer. Really unfortunate for a top tier company whose mission is centered around the customer but fall down on execution. Really disappointing. Im glad that we live a in capitalist state that allows us to have other choices and not feel stuck with one brand. The cost of our time and stress and technicians hourly wage is disproportionately greater than the 300 dollar retail price tag for the machine.

Beware of GEs scam! My new house came with a GE microwave oven model JVM1630. It no longer heats food so I called GE repair. Heres basically what they told me: It is likely the magnetron tube and it is still under warranty, so no charge to replace it but I would have to pay $99.95 for the repairman to come to my home to diagnose the problem. If I decided I didnt want to repair the microwave, I was offered a $100 coupon toward a new one but it had to be a GE and it had to be bought on their website only. If I decided to go ahead with the repairs, the $99.95 would be deducted from the bill and I would only have to pay for additional parts and labor. I repeatedly asked for a ball-park labor charge so I could make an informed decision as to whether it was cost effective to have the repairman come out or just get a brand new one elsewhere. The person on the repair line hung up on me! I called back and I was told the same thing; that no one could tell me what the labor cost estimate might be. I asked to talk to a supervisor and same story. I didnt schedule a repair because I was taking a long trip and wouldnt be using the microwave anyway. When I returned from my trip, I called GE repair and again they wouldnt give me a ball park figure. Frustrated, I decided to have the repairman just come out and repair the darn thing and an appointment was scheduled for the next Monday. I had to rearrange a Monday day trip to Wednesday and set the repair appointment. On Monday, it was starting to get late in the afternoon, so I called to find out if the guy was on his way. A recording said my call was noted and I would be receiving a follow-up call. About 10 minutes later, Kim in dispatch called to tell me she had to reschedule the repairman to Wednesday. I explained I already had an appointment on Wednesday. which was already changed because it conflicted with the repairman coming to my home. She told me the repairman couldnt come because his truck wasnt safe to drive so that whole day was shot. The appointment was rescheduled for Wednesday and I had to again reschedule my other trip. When the guy finally showed up on Wednesday, he told me to put a glass of water in the microwave and start it. Ten seconds later, he declared it to be the magnetron tube. He was at my house about 10 minutes, just long enough to take my $99.95 credit card payment and to give me an estimate of $246.90 to repair the microwave which included the free magnetron tube, a $20 part plus tax and labor. The estimate had instructions on how to get the $100 coupon if I decided to buy a new GE microwave, which he said is what most people do. He didnt seem like he came prepared to repair the microwave at all. I was so frustrated and already out the $99.95, so I told him to go ahead and repair it. He said I should call repair to schedule him to come back to repair it! I told him to just repair it now and he said he didnt think he had a magnetron tube in his truck. I asked him if he would go to the truck and check! He did, and nope, no tube and he left.I think this is a great scam GE and maybe others have going. Its entrapment. They get you to accept a repairman to come to your home and charge you nearly $100 for it, but give you a coupon for $100 for a new one but it has to be a GE and can only be bought from their website where they can go as high as $500 or $600. By the way, I got on the website to find a replacement. My model had been discontinued and the only one in my price range was also a discontinued model. They charge $75 to come out to install it and another $30 to take away your old one. I called local appliance stores to see if I could unload my old microwave for parts and they all said the same thing: stay away from GE products.

Some soaps work better than others. Still dirty dishes. We paid nearly $1000 for this machine, and once again, it has backed up. I will do my research next time. Their service department tried to tell me it was because it needed to be cleaned. GE never again! I have a busy family, and there is nothing more frustrating than having a dishwasher and not being able to use it.

Because of the moisture caused a short that melted the main board, with harness and the ribbon from the on/off panel that connects into the main board. The repair man had to return 3 more times and finally didnt have a leak for almost another year. Now, June 1, 2017 my kitchen is once again flooded. This machine is garbage - Very expensive garbage. Dont waste your money! I had previously purchased from Sears and never had a water leak in a machine that was 20 years old.

No matter what it is whether it's a GE hot water heater, an iPhone, a car or a frozen TV dinner, you're going to find someone that had a bad experience. After a day of rain eight years after I put in my Home Depot GE hot water heater, the pilot was out. I don't know if it was wet in there or what but it took me 10 hours of repeated attempts and while I was searching online for answers and deals on replacing it, I kept trying. And tonight at 10:30 PM I didn't bugger about, I just held down the pilot for one minute, and then once the pilot remained lit on its own, as fast as I could I turned the thermostat to medium high and kaboom it lit up wonderfully. Maybe it dried out but I would not say that GE water heaters are a piece of Home Depot junk. As I said earlier I installed mine eight years ago and it has never had a problem and since tonight it restarted and I checked the tap and now have hot water. I suspect it will be fine but if I need a new one, eight years hasn't been a bad run. Just follow the instructions very carefully and repeat and repeat and repeat. Good luck.
